Finally this long Winter Campaign is finally over. Today was election day in Canada, and we finally see the fall of the Liberal Government!

Today, January 23rd, 2006 Stephen Harper takes over as the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada. The Conservative Party of Canada completely dominated Alberta taking 100 per cent of the seats there. In British Columbia the Conservative Party lost a few seats to the NDP.

First off this is a great day for Western Canada. We finally get some power to the West. Also Paul Martin, the former Prime Minister of Canada (2003-2006) has finally been defeated and has resigned from the Liberal Party Leader.

The NDP did surprisingly well in British Columbia, an estimate of 35 per cent of their seats in Parliament come from the Province of British Columbia.

There is 308 seats in our Canadian Parliament and this is how it stands...

Conservative: 124
Liberal: 103
Bloc Québécois: 51
New Democratic Party: 29
Independent: 1
